WHY IS EARLY COACHING SO IMPORTANT FOR COLLEGE SUCCESS ?

I am Juna Sengupta. After a long and successful stint in leadership roles in both large companies and startups, I wanted to do something that feeds my soul; something that I have been doing on the side alongside product consulting to help families struggling with the stress of college admissions. My own children have recently graduated from Harvard College and The University of Texas, Austin and our youngest is headed to UCLA in the fall. An early start was crucial for a favorable college application outcome such as ours.
I have advised several families and their students pro-bono and they have valued my deep knowledge about the admission requirements for public and private colleges. Early intervention strategies help students succeed. Unlock your student's full potential at an early age. By the time the student is in high school, it's important to hone in and apply the skills you have already developed in the middle school years to passion projects which will set you apart. I often advise students not to do "more". Instead choose a few areas and dig "deep". Traditional counseling is a bit out of whack in an ever changing environment. I can help identify the activities that best speak to your student's abilities and how to come up with intervention strategies when something doesn't go as planned. And remember, it's never too early to be coached.
I normally set aside a FREE first-time diagnostic meeting with the family and provide you a report on what strategies could help. With elementary and middle school students, I can space out your sessions in a desired manner since you have more time on your side. With high schoolers, the first few years is critical for building a profile and hence time is of the essence for launching an early intervention initiative to help deflect any setbacks. Junior year is too late for creating a narrative. At this time students should be focused on essays, the actual college application, and a test score that gets them in the conversation.
With college acceptance rates dropping every year and given the fierce competition , one has to not only prepare early, but also be realistic as far as expectations are concerned. There are several great colleges in the US even outside of top 50 ranked by US News. The unhealthy and unrealistic obsession with getting admitted to only top 20 schools is toxic and is fast taking a toll on mental health. Remember, your worth is certainly not defined by where you end up going to college. I try to make this process as stress free as possible by getting families all the help they need earlier than later.
